Guatemala - La Lancha

La Lancha Lodge is set high in the hillside above Lake Petén Itzŕ in northern Guatemala. The main lodge offers beautiful panoramic views of the lake and jungle canopy below. From the main lodge, winding paths lead to secluded guest Casitas. Each one is brightly decorated, inspired by native art furnishings. The Rainforest Casitas have a view of the surrounding forest and some a partial view of the lake, while the Lakeview Casitas offer a breathtaking panorama of Lake Petén Itzá.



Location


La Lancha lies in the rainforest high above the shore of Lake Petén Itzá in the north of Guatemala. The lodge is located an hour away from the Belize border and a 45-minute drive from the Mayan ruins of Tikal. Its ideal location makes it easy to explore various spectacular monuments of the ancient Maya and to experience adventure excursions in the neighboring forests. Distance to airport: Flores 45min

Holiday Season
December 20 - January 05; April 05 - 10; November 21 - 25. Two night minimum stay.

High Season
January 06 - April 04; April 11 - May 31. Two night minimum stay.

Low Season

Accommodation


Accommodation is in bungalows that spill down the hill from the road to the lake. The cabins' furniture is sourced from Guatemalan producers and the décor features many locally made arts and crafts. The Rainforest Casitas are nestled in the forest and some offer a partial view of Lake Petén Itza. These Casitas feature a queen-sized bed and a comfortable private bathroom. The Lakeview Casitas feature an expansive bedroom with a queen-size bed and large marble tile bathroom. All casitas dispose of a large deck with hammocks and chairs that provide a comfortable setting for views of the lake and rainforest. All dwellings at La Lancha feature also bathrobes, a safe deposit box, shellphone for communication with the reception, air-conditioning, a writing table and a chair, umbrellas and organic, locally sourced, handmade toiletries.



Dining


La Lancha disposes of an open-air restaurant, which is situated under the main lodge's thatch roof, with spectacular views of the forest canopy and nearby Lake Petén Itzá. A continental breakfast is included in the room rate. Dinner features authentic Guatemalan dishes. The rooftop bar is set above the restaurant.

Activities


Thanks to La Lancha's location it is easy to explore the wonders of the ancient Maya. The spectacular monuments of Tikal, Uxactun, Yaxhá, Topoxte, Nakum, Dos Pilas, Aguateca and Seibal can all be visited by day tour, and helicopter access during the summer months opens up other mighty Maya sites such as El Mirador, Dos Pilas, El Peru Waka and Cancuen.
The neighboring forest lends itself to a wide range of adventure options as well, whether it be aerial walkway, zip line, horseback or jungle trail, while Lago Petén Itzá can be enjoyed by canoe, kayak or launch.
The lodge arranges also fishing trips with a local guide and Spanish language classes held in the neighboring village of San Andres.
