Combination Guatemala & Honduras

Daily from/to San Pedro Sula, 2 passengers minimum

Day 1: Guatemala City
Arrival at the Guatemala City international airport. You will be met and welcomed and then transfered to your hotel. 1 Overnight in Guatemala City.

Day 2: Guatemala City - Antigua
Transfer to Antigua, the earlier colonial capital of Central America, founded in 1543. We will visit the Main Square, the Cathedral and other buildings and colonial spots. 1 Overnight in Antigua.

Day 3: Antigua - Chichicastenango - Lake Atitlan
Departure to the highlands to visit Chichicastenango. Tour through the open-air market (only Thursdays & Sundays), where colourful handicrafts of the region are for sale. Enter the 400-year-old church of Santo Tomás, where catholic and pagan rites take place in a mystical atmosphere. We continue to Lake Atitlan. 2 Overnights in Panajachel at the lake.

Day 4: Lake Atitlan
Early in the morning we will start a boat ride to the Tzutuhil town of Santiago Atitlan. This small town still keeps the Mayan traditions and culture. We will visit the local market and the town's church before returning to Panajachel. Overnight in Panachachel.

Day 5: Lake Atitlan - Antigua
We will tour the Pacific lowlands, famous for its vegetables and flowers. We continue passing through big coffee and sugar cane plantations to Santa Lucia, before we continue on to Antigua for our overnight.

Day 6: Guatemala - Copán Ruinas, Honduras
1st class bus ride through the Motagua valley towards Honduras. En route we will pass through the states of El Progreso and Zacapa in Guatemala. The villages Almolonga and Zunil are known for their colourful vegetable and flower markets. After customs formalities transfer to Copán Overnight in Copán. En route learn about Mayan trade routes, social and political organization, and theories on their mysterious demise. Upon arrival to Copan we will have time to enjoy the environment and atmosphere of the village.

Day 7: Archaeological Park of Copán
After breakfast, we suggest for you to visit the legendary Archaeological Park of Copán, a short 20-minute walk from the Copan town. For your visit you can hire a local guide or enjoy on your own. The park consists of two main sites: The ruins and the sepulchres. Enjoy the impressive 63-step stairway with over 2,500 hieroglyphs and masterfully carved Stella. Also visit Las Sepulturas, a residential and burial site of the nobles.

Day 8: Copán - Lake Yojoa
Transfer to the Yojoa Lake. It´s birdwatchers paradise! About 350 species registered in Honduras can be found around this lake. We visit the impressive Pulhapanzak Waterfall before reaching our hotel at the lake. 1 Overnight.

Day 9: Lake Yojoa - Lancetilla - Tela
We continue our way onto the Carribean coast to Tela. En route we visit the Lancetilla Botanical Garden. The United Fruit Company founded the gardens over 70 years ago as an experimental botanical site. Here you will find hardwood, medicinal and ornamental plants as well as tropical fruit trees from all over the world. You will see how the bamboo forest absorbs some 90% of the day-light, admire the long rows of majestic Royal Palms or try exotic fruits fresh from the tree. An Orchid Garden and a Natural Reserve with a beautiful 1,200 hectares of virgin tropical rain-forest make up this wonderful natural area. We then proceed to our hotel in Tela. 3 Overnights.

Day 10 - 11: Tela
Two days left free to enjoy the sun, sand and tropical atmosphere of the Caribbean coast of Honduras. Optional excursions to nearby national parks may be organized at an additional cost. For example Punta Sal National Park invites you to a boat trip to explore the cristal clear waters of the Carribbean Sea, hike through the jungle and taste a typical Garifuna style lunch. The excursion to Punta Izopo National Park involves kayaking through the maze of mangrove creeks and rivers that make up this national park. The kayaks offer the perfect mode of transport to explore the mangroves and silently sneak up on the many animals and birds that inhabit the park. Overnight in Tela

Day 12: Tela - San Pedro Sula
Transfer to the San Pedro Sula airport on time to connect to your international departure flight or extension program to the beautiful Bay Islands. End of program.
