Flora of Honduras

Honduras is home to a great diversity of ecosystems. These systems are home to a huge variety of flora. Over 10,000 vascular plant species can be found in Honduras, and we are still counting. Areas of pine forest, wetlands, mangroves, coral reefs, tropical dry forest, tropical rain forests and cloudforest can all be found in Honduras.

There is over 30 cloudforest areas in Honduras, the Rio Platano Biosphere contains 5251 km2 of maybe the richest habit in all of Central America. The Rio Platano Biosphere, The Patuca National Park and The Tawanka Biosphere Reserve, form with the forested areas in the north of Nicaragua, the largest unfragmented area of rainforest north of the Amazon. It has been proven that this area contains more tree species per square hectare than the Amazon jungle. A quite amazing fact. Another little known fact about Honduras is that it is home to more intact rainforest, cloudforest and pine forest than it's more well known and visited neighbours, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
Currently there are more than 100 protected areas in Honduras. These national parks, biospheres and wildlife reserves offer an unforgettable experience and the perfect environment for all nature lovers.

All our nature tours are lead by one of our trained naturalists, who have years of experience in nature guiding.
