Naked Indian Tree
This species has a wide distribution in open and deciduous rainforest.
Its name comes from the characteristics of the trees bark and colour.
When the tree loses its reddish bark, it is replaceable with a new one.
For a long time the tree was called by the locals inhabitants the naked
Indian, because its reddish bark looked like there naked skin, but when
the first tourists and foreigners arrived, the locals saw that after a
few weeks, the tourists effected by the strong sun became bright red.
This is where the second common name comes from, tourist tree.
It can be found in low areas uptil 1000 meters above sea level. It flowers
from February until March and the flowers are in groups that are green
to yellowish. Its bark is used by the locals as a natural insecticide
to protect cattle and horses from biting insects.
