Tela Bay & Lancetilla Garden
1 day from/to San Pedro Sula guaranteed and daily departures with 2 passengers only
In the morning you are picked-up from your hotel and transferred to Tela, a small, friendly town at the Honduran north coast. We visit the Lancetilla Botanical Garden, founded by the United Fruit Company in the 1920s as an experimental botanical site. This garden is the home of several species of trees native to Oceania, Africa and Asia. With thousands of different plant species, it is one of the largest botanical gardens in the world. Very impressive are the large collections of plants with economical importance, hardwood, medicinal and ornamental plants. Here you will also find tropical fruit trees from all over the world. Lancetilla is divided into three sections: the Arboretum (a garden dedicated primarily to the study of trees and other woody plants), a biotic reserve (virgin forest) and an experimental plants area. Lancetilla is also one of the principal bird watching spots in the whole country, with over 300 species that have been identified. The afternoon is left free to enjoy Tela's beaches. Later we return to San Pedro Sula.
