Your guide picks you up in the early morning, and drops you off at the hotel or where requested at the end of the tour. During the 3-hours drive to the Honduran highlands, you have the chance to obtain first information about the Maya and the current excavations. We visit the legendary archaeological park of Copán, which consists of two main sites: the ruins and the sepulchers, a residential and burial site of the Mayan nobles. One of the main attractions of Copán is the impressive hieroglyphic stairway, which is with more than 2,500 hieroglyphs universally recognized as the most extensive hieroglyphic text of the ancient New World. This majestic construction is part of a temple that was built, at least in its final stage, by the fifteenth ruler of Copan in 755 A.C. Although not fully decoded, numerous studies have shown that the text narrates the dynastic history of Copán. In the late afternoon we return to San Pedro Sula.
